"MATCHACADO" MUESLI (grain-free)

This creamy green porridge combines three of my favourite brekkie foods — matcha, avocado, and muesli!

Mad For Matcha

Matcha is made by grinding high quality nutrient-rich green tea leaves into a fine powder.  It has a beautiful green colour and a unique, complex taste, with a balance of naturally sweet, malty, bitter and earthy vegetal notes.  It is rich in anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, disease-fighting phytochemicals including the subgroup of antioxidants called catechins. One particular catechin, EGCg, is widely recognized for its anti-cancer properties.  Matcha is also used to induce a sense of calm while simultaneously boosting energy, concentration, memory and metabolism.

All About the Avo

Avocado is a relatively unique fruit in that it is low in carbohydrate (most of which is actually fibre!) but high in healthy fat.  Avocados are incredibly nutritious and contain powerful disease-fighting antioxidants like lutein & zeaxanthin along with a wide range of vitamins & minerals, including vit K, folate, & potassium.  Research suggests that avocado consumption may help to lower cholesterol levels; relieve arthritis symptoms; promote eye health, healthy blood pressure & weight control; and even reduce the risk of certain cancers.

Along with these amazing health benefits, avocado has a lovely creamy texture and mild taste that works perfectly for porridge!

More About Muesli

Muesli differs from granola in that it is a mixture of raw cereals (most often oats), dried fruit, seeds and nuts, whereas granola is baked.  Muesli is typically soaked with dairy or nondairy milk, yogurt, or fruit juice before eating to make it easier to chew and digest.

This recipe can be made with any dry muesli mix.  I used my homemade grain-free, paleo & keto-friendly muesli.  It's packed with fiber, healthy fats and protein and is super easy to throw together.  It's great as a smoothie topper, mixed with your favourite milk or yogurt, or added to overnight oats.  I've also provided a recipe for my Golden Paleo Bircher Muesli.
