This smoothie bowl brings together blueberries, leafy greens and spirulina to make an amazing superfood-charged brekkie that will help to keep you beautiful, inside and out!
Spirulina is a freshwater blue-green algae rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. In fact, it is so nutrient-dense that it has been ranked among the healthiest foods on the planet.
Spirulina is a natural anti-microbial and detoxifying agent. More studies are needed, but consumption may help to rid the body of harmful heavy metals and fight against infections such as candidiasis. It has also been suggested that spirulina can increase energy, boost the immune system, reduce cholesterol and blood pressure and lower the risk of stroke and certain cancers.
For one serving, blend together until smooth:
1/2 cup homemade probiotic coconut yogurt (or substitute Greek yogurt)
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 ripe or frozen banana
1/4 ripe or frozen avocado
one handful of fresh baby spinach or kale
1/4 to 1/2 tsp spirulina powder, adjusted to taste
Lakanto monkfruit sweetener, pure stevia, or sweetener of choice, adjusted to taste
optional toppings: fruit, toasted coconut chips, or toppings of choice
