Have you heard of Golden Milk or Turmeric Tea?  It’s a warm drink typically made with turmeric and either coconut milk or coconut oil and spices.

Turmeric — or the “spice of life” as it’s known in India — has been used in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries.  Its anti-inflammatory benefits are also well documented in the mainstream medical literature.

Turmeric’s main active ingredient is curcumin.  In addition to its potent anti-inflammatory effects, this amazing phytochemical is believed to have blood sugar-stabilizing, anti-cancer, wound-healing, and cognitive & mood-enhancing benefits.

This is my spin on Golden Milk.  It is super quick & easy to make and can be enjoyed anytime of the day.  I love it both as a soothing evening drink and in the morning as a caffeine-free alternative to Bulletproof-style coffee.

The following recipe works well with either unsweetened almond milk or canned organic coconut milk.  If you use full-fat coconut milk, you can omit the coconut butter.  However, don’t go with almond milk alone because both the healthy fats and black pepper increase the bioavailability (or absorption) of curcumin.

For 2 servings, blend together until frothy:

  • 2 cups warmed unsweetened almond or coconut milk

  • 2 packets Crushed Tonic probiotic collagen with turmeric OR 2 scoops collagen peptides of choice plus 1 to 2 tsp ground turmeric (see note below)

  • 2 Tbsp coconut butter

  • 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon

  • pinch of black pepper

  • pinch of ground cardamom

  • pure stevia or sweetener of choice to taste

Sprinkle with cinnamon as desired and serve.

*Note: Each packet Crushed Tonic Turmeric contains 10g marine collagen, 1 billion units probiotic, 1,000 mcg biotin, and <2g turmeric. Use code “crushingondrtara” for a discount (not sponsored).

For a vegan option, omit the collagen and add 1 to 2 tsp turmeric powder.
