Move over peppermint mocha… the PEPPERMINT MATCHA is here!
Truth be told, I love chocolate and a cup of Joe as much as anyone. But this is an amazing coffee-free alternative for those of us who also happen to love matcha. It delivers creamy peppermint and green tea goodness without any refined sugar. And better still, this quick & easy smoothie is full of healthy fat & collagen to keep you happy and satiated for hours (not to mention the benefits for your joints, skin and gut!). If warm drinks are more your style this time of year, I've got a warm peppermint matcha latte for you, too!
Mad About Matcha
Matcha is made by grinding high quality nutrient-rich green tea leaves into a fine powder. It has a beautiful green colour and a unique, complex taste, with a balance of naturally sweet, malty, bitter and earthy vegetal notes. It is packed with anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, disease-fighting phytochemicals including the subgroup of antioxidants called catechins. One particular catechin, EGCg, is widely recognized for its anti-cancer properties. Matcha is also used to induce a sense of calm while simultaneously boosting energy, concentration, memory and metabolism. How great that something so tasty can help bring the zen AND promote healthy weight control!
Why the Avocado?
Hmmm... The simple answer here is that everything is better with avocado! But in all seriousness, if you haven't tried the matcha-cado combo in a smoothie, it's a must in my books. Avocado has a mild flavour and luscious creamy texture that blends beautifully with matcha.
Avocado is a relatively unique fruit in that it is low in carbohydrate (most of which is fibre!) but high in healthy monounsaturated fat. It is incredibly nutritious and contains powerful disease-fighting antioxidants like lutein & zeaxanthin along with a wide range of vitamins & minerals, including vit K, folate, and potassium. Research suggests that avocado consumption may help to lower cholesterol levels; relieve arthritis symptoms; promote eye health, healthy blood pressure & weight control; and even reduce the risk of certain cancers.
